'Jonathan Woodman,

born circa 1665 at Oyster River Section of Dover, New Hampshire, son of John & Mary (Field) Woodman; married Elizabeth Downing, circa 1698. She was born April 22, 1669, daughter of Joshua & Patience (Hatch) Downing of Kittery, Maine.

Jonathan and Elizabeth settled at Oyster River (now Durham, New Hampshire). She died April 17, 1729 at Oyster River. He died in 1750 at Oyster River, aged 85 years. Both are buried in the Woodman Cemetery, at the end of Woodman Road, Durham, New Hampshire.

The History of Durham states Jonathan was a selectman of Dover in 1705.

A historical marker at the junction of Bennett Road and Route 108 in Durham reads: These scenic falls, 1.6 miles west of here on the Lamprey river, once provided waterpower and industry for the early settlers. A deed dated April 11, 1694, shows that Capt. Packer, Jonathan Woodman, James Davis, Joseph Meder, and James Thomas were granted "the hole streame of Lamprele River for erecting a saw mill or mills."

The will of Lieut. Jonathan Woodman was written January 2, 1749 and proved April 25, 1750.
