About Lila Jean Pilcher

**Glasco Sun, Sept. 6, 1945, page 2:

Lila Jean Pilcher was born at Simpson, Kansas on Feb. 1, 1928, to Mrs. Clifford Pilcher, her father having passed on two weeks before her birth. She closed her eyes for a final rest at 4 o'clock, Monday afternoon, Aug. 27, 1945, in an automobile accident. She was 17 years, 6 months, and 27 days of age.

Lila lived all but a few months of her life in Glasco, attending grade school, and had enrolled a few days previous to her death for her senior year in high school. Lila was a loveable girl and always had a smile for everyone. Lila was a comfort to her mother, ready and willing to do anything that was asked of her. She was active in church work, being baptized into the Christian church January 17, 1943. She was active in her school work and in band she was first clarinetist.

Lila is survived by her mother, Mrs. Nelle Pilcher, three brothers, Luke, Luther, twins, and Max, and one sister, Mrs. Bette Wohlgemuth; two grandmothers, Mrs. Adah Pilcher of Glasco, and Mrs. J.S. Benson of Glasco, and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Thursday evening, August 30, 1945, at 7 o'clock, the Rev. O.K. Oelke in charge. The high school glee club sang two numbers. Pall bearers were Don Downing, Donald Lachenmaier, Dick Martin, Dean Williams, Bob Henning and Keith Elliott. Members of the high school English class furnished a mimeographed folder for the service. Interment was in Glasco cemetery.
