Mrs Lilian Stiles-Allen, a professional singer and teacher whose pupils included the star Julie Andrews, died on July 15 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. She was aged 91. During her career as a dramatic soprano, Lilian Stiles-Allen sang for the BBC, in promenade concerts, and at concerts throughout the country. She was best known during the period between the two world wars.
Although she never gave up singing, she later concentrated on teaching and coaching Julie Andrews in voice development from about the age of 12, when the girl was brought to her by Ted Andrews her step-father, and himself a pupil of Lilian Stiles-Allen.
Lilian was born Lilian Elizabeth Allen, and added her mother's maiden name Stiles to become Lilian Stiles-Allen, She married Mr. Sydney George Jeffries-Harris, who died in 1967.
Their son Mr. Michael Jeffries-Harris survives.
