About Linda Thomas-Greenfield
Linda Thomas-Greenfield (born 1952) is an American diplomat who served as the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the United States Department of State's Bureau of African Affairs from 2013 to 2017. Following her work as a diplomat, Thomas-Greenfield became a senior vice president at Albright Stonebridge Group in Washington, D.C. President-elect Joe Biden has announced his intention to nominate her as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Prior to joining the Department of State, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield taught political science at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, where she also did work towards a doctorate.
Family
Born in Baker, Louisiana circa 1952, Linda Thomas-Greenfield graduated from a segregated high school in 1970. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield and her husband, Lafayette, have two children, Lindsay and Lafayette II.
