Mom was adopted by her fathers brother Earl Layton Johnston and Vivian Dovie Lawson Johnston. Vivian was previously married to their other brother Denver Johnston. Earl promised Denver that if anything ever happened to him that he would marry and take care of Vivian and that's what he did. Denver gave his life heroically in action for his country on Luzon (Philippines), July 22, 1945.
