First Lady of Texas during the administration of her husband, then-Texas Governor Mark W. White from January 18, 1983 to January 20, 1987.
Born to the parents of Robert L. and Lisa Marie Thompson, the family moved to Dallas, Texas; later moved to Irving, where Linda Gale was raised. Following graduation from high school, she attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she graduated in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. It was while at Baylor, that she met her future husband Mark Wells White, Jr., of Houston, Texas. They got married in November 1966 and to this union, three children were born: Mark Wells, III; Robert Andrew and Elizabeth Marie.
She taught vocational office education at Johnson High School in Austin and later taught high school in Houston. In the mid 1970s, she began a career in real estate sales. Her volunteering projects included working in the newborn infant nursery at St. David's Hospital in Austin, as a career counselor at the Austin Women's Center helping displaced homemakers finding jobs, teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation and supporting the Austin Symphony League, the Paramount Theatre and the Austin Junior League.
