Liotta Leuta

Sipea Leuta, 30, earlier pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Liotta Leuta. She was sentenced to 6 years jail. The High Court in Auckland heard she became enraged after a dispute with the child about eating his dinner. She went out to the garage and cut a section from a vehicle fan belt, also grabbing a metre-long piece of aerial wire. She used both to repeatedly beat and whip the five-year-old on his stomach, back and front. Liotta suffered severe multiple injuries and later died from inhaling his own vomit. Source: 4theKids.

2000: Liotta Leuta, aged 5 years : Liotta’s mother, Sipea Leuta, broke a fanbelt into a metre-long strap and used that and an old car aerial to beat Liotta. Over one hundred bruises were found on his body. The ultimate cause of Liotta’s death was aspiration of gastric contents secondary to multiple acute soft tissue injuries. Leuta was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment. The sentence was increased to seven years, on appeal by the Solicitor General.
