About Lois Louise Cowles
Lois was married and divorced from Gardner "Mike" Cowles. Their children: Lois, Gardner"Pat", Kate and Jane. Lois graduated from college in 1930. She went to work for the Des Moines Register newspaper. They sent her to the Soviet Union to report on women's issues there. She wrote three articles about that trip. After her divorce Lois moved to NYC where she became active with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. In the early 1950's her apartment was the NYC meeting place of Thurgood Marshall and his legal team as they challenged school segregation.
