Ljmde Lord, b. at Litchfield, Conn., ai Oct, 1762, second son of Lynde Lord, Esq. (437)» and Lois Sheldon (1970), was a great-grandson of Elizabeth Hyde (9) of the Uiird generation. He grad. at Yale in 1783, and became a lawyer. He m. 13 Jan., 1786, his second cousin of the Sheldon blood, Mary Lyman, b. 1764* at Northampton, only daughter of Capt Joseph Lyman, of the army of the Revolu- tion, and Mary Sheldon, who was a niece of his grandfather, Capt Elisha Sheldon, who m. Elizabeth Ely. They settled at Litchfield, where he was deputy sheriff under his father. He d. 12 Feb., 1813, at Litchfield, where she d. la May, 1843- Their children were:

Joseph Lynde, b. 2 Sept, 1788, at Litchfield, d. 4 Oct, 1789.

Joseph Lyman, b. 25 Aug., 1790, at Litchfield. He m. 10 May, 1812, Maria Tryon. They settled at Boston, and in 18x5 removed to Baltimore, where he was a merchant, and where she d. 14 May, 1816. They had two children:

March, 1790, daughter of Major Lemuel Gates, of the United States army. They removed to Boston in 18x9, and to Taunton, Mass., in 1827, where he was a mer- chant and postmaster. In 1835 they removed to New York, where he was engaged in business until 1845. He then originated and became the agent of the mutual benefit life insurance company of New York, where he was such agent in 1859. He had by her eight other children:

VL Col. Elisha Sheldon (1964), b. at Lyme, Conn., 6 Mar., 1740, eldest son of the Hon. Elisha Sheldon and Elizabeth Ely of Litchfield, was a great-grandson of Elizabeth Hyde of the third generation. He m., probably, a Whiting of Litch- field. He was colonel of a regiment of dragoons in the service of the U^i S. in the war of the Revolution. Soon after the close of the war he removed to Franklin Co.. Vt., where he had a grant of land and d. in 1805. The following is all I have learned as to his family. Their children were :

Samuel B. Sheldon, who m. Lovice Ashley, and settled at Sheldon, Vt., and had one child :

1. Elizabeth, who m. Dr. Chauncey Fitch of Sheldon, Vt., b. 17 Jan., 1771, at Canterbury, Conn., son of Dr. Jabez Fitch and Lydia Huntington of Canterbury. They had five children: Samuel Sheldon, a physician at New York; Jabez; John, a clergyman at Sheldon, Vt; Louisa, who m. Dr. Witmore; Elizabeth, who m. Henry Carlisle of Sheldon.

Samuel then m. Lucy Willard, and had by her four children :

3. Samuel B., who m., ist, M. S. Higgins, and. 2nd, Maria Maynard, and had two children ; he was postmaster at Sheldon in 1844.

3. Sanh Bellows, b. 7 June, 1782, m. 6 March, 1802, Major Nathaniel Z. Piatt, b. 16 Dec, 1775, at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., son of one of the first settlers and proprietors of Plattsburgh, N. Y.,«by his second wife, Mary Van Wyck. He was a merchant, and they settled at Plattsburgh, where he was a member of the legisla- ture and a major of militia, and where he d. 25 Oct, 1820. She had by him six children, b. at Plattsburgh: Elizabeth Sheldon, b. 22 July, 1803, m. 10 March, 1822, Capt Samuel S. Russell of the U. S. Army, son of Judge Samuel Russell of Buffalo, N. Y. He was killed 28 Feb., 1839, in Florida, in a battle with the Semi- nole Indians. She had by him four children: William Beaumont, b. 16 Jan., 1823, d. IS Sept., 1824; Francis S. Keyes, b. 2 Aug., 1825, a lieutenant in the U. S. army, who d. 27 Jan., 1857; Sarah, b. 3 Nov., 1829, d. 14 Dec., 1831; and Mary Waite, b. 15 Aug., 1832, d. 20 March, 1845. Mrs. Elizabeth (Piatt) Russell then m. 30 March, 1845* Frederick Lewis Charles Sailly, son of Hon. Peter Sailly of Plattsburgh, by his second wife, Marianne Adelaide Gaillie. They settled at Plattsburgh, where he was collector of the customs for the district of Champlain and county treasurer, and where they were* living in 185^ and she had by htm one child, Mary Waite, b. xi June, 1847; Stephen Keyes Piatt, son of Major Piatt and Sarah Bellows Sheldon, b. 22 April, 1805, d. 25 Sept, 1819; Mary Van Wyck, b. 6 Feb., 1808, m. 23 April, 1825, Carios Adolphus Waite of the U. S. Army, b. 12 Feb., 1794, at Lyme, Conn., eldest son of Col. Ezra Waite of East Bloomfield, by his first wife, Lucy Miller, and grandson of Richard Waite the first of Lyme by his second wife, Rebecca Higgins. In 1858 he was lieut-col. of the Fifth Reg. of U. S. Infan., and colonel by brevet, and was with the army in Utah, and she was living with her sister at Plattsburgh, s. p.; Theodoras, b. 19 Dec, 1811, m. Marietta S. Nichols, of Enosburgh, and was living at Pera, N. Ira Allen, of Irasburgh, Vt, and d. about 1840; Mary W., m, Heman S. Royce, a lawyer at Highgate, Vt; Anselm 2d, a farmer; Fannie, who m. Col. Ira Allen after the death of her sister, his first wife; and Louisa, who m. Rev. Ebenezer Harvey Squier, who graduated at Middlebury college in 1858, professor at Richmond, Va.

Mary Sheldon, who m. William Whitney, and d. at the birth of her first child, and the child d. with her.

Sarah Sheldon, who m. Elnathan Keyes; she d. 1858. They had nine children:

2128. Samuel Sheldon, b. 1750, d. 1842, son of Elizabeth Ely and Elisha Sheldon ; m. Elizabeth Baldwin.

Samuel Sheldon (1968), b. at Lyme, Conn., j6 May, 1750, fifth son of Hon. Elisha Sheldon and Elizabeth Ely of Litchfield, was a great-grandson of Elizabeth Hyde of the third generation. He m. 31 July, 1780, his third cousin, Elizabeth Baldwin, b. 6 Nov., 1751, at Litchfield, eldest dau. of Isaac Baldwin, Esq., and Anne Collins. He was a merchant, and they settled at Litchfield, removed to Sheldon, Vt, and from there to Troy, N. Y., where she d. 10 Sept., 1840 and he d. 2 Jan., 1842.

Their children were:

Elisha, b. 15 July, 1782, at Litchfield. He grad. at Yale in 1800, and was a physician, having studied medicine and surgery with Dr. Daniel Sheldon of Litchfield. He m. i Aug., 1802, Anne Beach, b. 25 Dec, 1783, at Newtown. Conn., daughter of John Beach and Mabel Beers of Sheldon, Va., and a great-grand-

daughter of the Rev. John Beach of Newtown, b. 1700, who grad. at Yale, 1721, was settled as the minister at Newtown, became an Episcopalian, went to England in 1732, and obtained Episcopal ordination, and d. 19 March, 1782. They settled on a farm at Sheldon, and in 1822 removed to Troy, where he resumed the practice of his profession, and d. 14 Dec, 1832. His widow, who was a most beautiful woman, d. 21 Jan., 1844, ^t New Haven, Conn. They had two children:

I. Elizabeth, b. 6' Dec, 1804, at Harwinton, nu 27 Sept, 1827, at Troy, Henry Edward Peck, b. 18 March, 1805, at New Haven, son of Nathan Peck and Mehitable Tibbals. He grad. at Yale, 1823, was a lawyer and settled at New Haven, where he was editor of The Journal and Advertiser, and was a member of both branches of the legishturc He d. 6 May, 1858, at New Haven, leaving her surviving. They had four children: Mary Helena, b. 9 Oct, 1828 (m. 15 Oct, 1850, Cyrus Stebbtns Curtis of New York, who d. 8 Oct, 1853. and had a dau., Mary Bhindina, b. 3 Aug., 1851) ; Samuel Sheldon, b. 19 Aug., 1830, d. 22 Jan., 1846; Phebe Warren, b. 29 Oct, 1832; and Henry Edward, b. 19 Aug., 1839.

3. Mary, b. 6 June, 1809, at Sheldon, m. 27 Jan., 1835, at Troy, Jonathan Farmer Scribner, b. in New Hampshire He was a merchant and then settled at Sheldon, removed to Elmira, N. Y., and in 1858 were living at Janesville, Wis., and had seven children: Elizabeth Sheldon, b. 19 Aug., 1838; Elisha Sheldon, b. 1840;* Mary Anne, b. 1844; Emeline Rathbone; Charles Stuart; Jonathan; and Helena Curtis. «
