About Longstreet Gantt
May 14, 1943, State Paper Obituary- " Longstreet Gantt Dies Yesterday in Winnsboro. Longstreet Gant, 87, died at his home in Winnsboro last night at 10 o'clock. He was born in Barnwell in 1856, the son of Richard Allen Gantt and Mary Louisa Hay Gantt. He was the last surviving member of the family. An attorney by profession, he practiced law in Barnwell with his brother, the late Col. Frederick Hay Gantt. He was one time probate judge of that county. For many years he lived in Winnsboro. He was an active member of the Episcopal church in Winnsboro and a member of the choir. He married Miss Lavinia Skinner, who survives him as do the following children: Mrs. EP Ferguson of Winnsboro, Mrs. J. Morris Lyles of Winnsboro and Mrs. Arthur LaBruce of Georgetown. A daughter, Miss Annie Gantt and a son Joseph Skinner Gantt, predeceased him. His grandchildren are Ensign Joseph Gantt Ferguson, USNR, Ernest Ferguson, a student a Randolph- Macon College, Ashland, VA, Richard Ferguson, a student at Clemson, Mrs. Daniel Ravenel of Spartanburg, Lt. J. Morris Lyles, Jr. of Camp Stewart, GA, Miss Lavinia Lyles of Winnsboro; Mrs. Suzanna Lyles of Converse college, and Arthur LaBruce and Evelyn LaBruce of Georgetown.
