Louella lived with her family at Mt. Clemens from 1911 to 1926. After marriage, they moved and in 1920 were living at Grosse Point, Wayne County, Michigan. Howard was a private gardner there. From 1923 to 1926 they had moved back to Mt. Clemens living at 146 N. Wilson St., and remained there until death. Howard operated a landscaping business there. They lived within a few houses of the rest of the Ahrens family.
