Louis Pfeilsticker Was First Child Born At Readings Landing F.H.Stauff,junior^partner,residingatLakeCity,iscreditedasbeingthefirstwhitechildborninthecounty.WasbornAugust31,1855.
The community paid its final tribute to Louis Pfeilsticker Tuesday afternoon, one of the first white children to be born in Reads Landing and Wabasha County. Mr. Pfeilsticker was 84 years of age and had lived in this county the greater part of his life. Services were held from the home of the Rev. Jason Hoffman, pastor of Trinity Reformed church, . Burial was made in Riverview cemetery. Casketbearers were six grandsons, Peter Klas, Jr., Wallace Pseilsticker, Marion Pfeilsticker, Frank Pfeilsticker, Jr., Donald Klas and Lee Pfeilsticker. Mr. Pfeilsticker succumbed at his home Sunday at 10:20am from infirmities of old age. Although he had been ailing for four years, he was confined to his bed for only a week preceding his death. and seven children: They are: George of Colfax, Wisconsin, Charles of Fargo, North Dakatoa, Mrs. PG Klas (Dora) of Worthington, Mrs. Olivia Kylo, Frank, August and John, all of Wabasha. Three children, Louis, Allen and William preceded him in death. His father died in 1869 and his mother in 1909. One brother, George Hauswedell of Arco, Minnesota, twenty-five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Pfeilsticker was born at Reads Landing January 21, 1857, the son of Louis and Theresa (Hummel) Pfeilsticker. His father at one time operated a bakery and confectionary business here. Educated in public school of Reads and Wabasha, Mr Pfeilsticker worked for about 20 years on a farm and in 1877 entered the employ of W.H. McArthur, a Wabasha cooper. The next year he worked in Brooking ct, South Dakota and homesteaded 169 acres of lands. He stayed there appropimately 3 years, returning to Wabasha in 1881, re-entering the employ of Mr. McArthur. In 1884 he started work for the Wabasha Roller Mill remaining as foreman until 1914. His sons operated the farm which he had purchased in the meantime. After leaving the mill he operated the farm himself and continued as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Wabasha Lodge No 14, A.F.A.A.M., the independent order of the Odd Fellows and the Good Samaritans, when they existed here. The Masonic order officiated at the burial rites. One of the oldest farmer in this area, Mr. Pfeilsticker made a distinct success of farming. His ideas and opinions were always respected by his friends. He was a leader and a booster for the community. A member of the Trinity Reformed Church he led a good life based on Christian principles. He was a devoted father and husband. Georgoire of Marshall, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs Walter Theisen of Zumbro Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Theisen of Zumbro Falls, Mrs. Elizabeth Pfeilsticker of Davenport, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brataas of Rochester; William Anding, Charles Anding, Mrs. Moritz Anding, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Anding all of Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Engel, of Elgin, Mrs. Henrietta Scroggins of Minneapolis, Mr and Mrs M.E. Scroggins of Minneapolis, Dwight Ehrlinger of Ellsworth, Mrs. LLoyd Meyer and Mrs Joe Wallerich, of Theilman.
