According to a story publish on Ancestry.com by hodgeskw, Louisa ran away from home and married a French soldier named Bellenfant who had come to America with Lafayette. At the time of her death, she was returning to America from a visit with her husband's family in Marseille. She died giving birth to a daughter on board the ship. The child, born Aug 8, 1797, was named Mourning. Louisa was buried at sea. She was 31 years old.
