Johanna Louise Lehmann Grambow Brunke
Our aged and much admired Papa Friedrich Brunke is mourning the death of his life's partner. Death took her from his side Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. and now she lives in a better place. The deceased, nee Louise Lehmann lived with her husband in harmony over 50 years. She was born in Zacherick, Frankfurt District, Province Brandenburg in 1816 and was married twice. Her first marriage was to Gottlieb Grambow in 1835, who died 11 years later. She married Friedrich Brunke in 1849 and emigrated to America with him in 1867. They first settled in Hustisford, remaining there until 1888, and then moved to Mayville. Aside from her husband, four daughters survive from the first marriage, namely Mrs. Carl Engel and Mrs. Ferdinand Wendt of Mayville, Mrs. Wilhelmine Bergemann of Cromwell Center, Iowa, and Theresa Jacke of Junction City, Kansas. One daughter from the first marriage, died during childhood. There is only one son alive from the second marriage, Mr. Franz Brunke, the well known cigar maker of Mayville. One son, August Brunke, died March 3, 1899 and one daughter from the second marriage died at seven years of age. Grandmother Brunke suffered from neuralgia 20 years, but the death was a result of the frailty connected with age. Pastor Brummond of LeRoy will preside at the funeral tomorrow, Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.. The burial will be on Graceland Cemetery of Mayville. To the grieving survivors we offer our sincere sympathy.
