Lourens wou graag Port Natal toe trek. Sy seun Lourens het reeds gedurende 1838 saam met Gert Maritz getrek, "terwyl die groot Badenhorst-trek in dieselfde jaar uit die Swellendam-distrik by Colesberg aangekom en daar vir sewe jaar tot stilstand gekom het". "So vroeg as 4 Maart 1840 verskyn sy naam in die Notule as lid van die Volksraad van die Republiek Natalia en op 1 April 1840 het hy voorsitter van die Volksraad geword".

By die doop van hulle 1ste kind woon hulle te "Kliprivier", Swellendam.

Hulle woon in die dorp Swellendam, vertrek net na 15 Maart 1838 en is reeds gedurende 1839 in Natal. By sy afsterwe woon hulle to Umvoti, Natal.
