-----------------------------------------------------

Cornouaille is a former political and religious division of Brittany.
Cornouaille designates the honor of the county of Cornouaille. Then, it also gives its name to the bishopric of Quimper , also called diocese of Cornouaille , which disappeared as such during the Revolution . Cornwall also gave its name to the legendary " Kingdom of Cornwall " [ref. necessary]
The House of Cornwall gave the Duchy of Brittany several of its rulers.
The name was given to an administrative division resulting from the Voynet law , created in 1999, and covering approximately one-third of the former political division.
Its limits, which seem to have been very stable and resulting from the division of the Gallic city of Osismes along an axis Élorn -Montagnes d' Arrée 1 , covered the southern two thirds of the department of Finistère , a strong South-West sector of the department of Côtes-d'Armor and the great surroundings of Gourin and Faouët in the department of Morbihan . Its historic capital is Quimper , which has also become the capital of the Pays de Cornouaille.
We therefore always distinguish, for example, for cultural activities resulting from local tradition, Lower Cornwall and Upper Cornwall, but the latter name concerns, in practice, the canton of Carhaix-Plouguer , the canton of Callac , the canton of Châteauneuf-du-Faou , the canton of Rostrenen and the canton of Corlay in which we define the traditional dances and songs of Haute-Cornouaille Note 3 . These cantons are not in the Pays Voynet de Cornouaille, but in that of Centre-Ouest Bretagne (COB).
They are often designated by the terms "The Mountain" or "The Mountains" in reference to the Arrée Mountains and theBlack Mountains .
The demonym of “Cornouaille bretonne” is Cornish ‑e
