Karel Beyers story about grandma Erasmus.
'I was told a story as it could be recalled by Karel Beyers, the grandchild of Louwtjie Erasmus. She was born during the Anglo/Boer War. She was born in a concentration camp. Her mother had no milk to feed her. An arrangement was then made with some African women with babies living nearby to come and breastfeed Louwtjie Erasmus. The African woman was compensated for their services. It could only happen because they had some access to resources to compensate the African woman for their services and also because the British officer that was in charge of the camp has allowed it to happen.' Johan Beaurain on Saturday 20 April 2019.
'Karel Beyers told me the above story before I knew the names of her ancestors. I could not understand how such a thing could have happened during the Anglo/Boer War. But once I have established that Louwtjie Erasmus was the grandchild of Pres. Daniel Jacobus Erasmus and that the British forces have killed his son and the father of Louwtjie Erasmus in the battle of Bakenslaagte, District Yzervarkfontein, Bethal, less than a month before the child Louwtjie Erasmus was born, everything became clear to me. That is probably also why this female child was given the names of her father'- Johan Beaurain on Wednesday 24 April 2019
My understanding is that Louwtjie got divorced in 1926 and that she then died in 1966. 'B6C6D4E6 - Johan Andries Beyers (1886-1968) X (first wife) Louise Erasmus (divorced 1926 & she died 1966)'- Van Erfurt na die Kaap.
