About Lt. (CSA), James Kennerly
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/48068290/james-amadee-kennedy_k...
He was a Lt. in the Civil War, on the Confederate side. After the war, he was an engineer building railroad lines. One month after he married Nin V. Allen, he was working on a line when he developed a stomache ache. He went to the pharmacy and asked for a harmless medicine. However, the pharmacist's untrained clerk gave him Aconite instead. He died a horrid and painful death one hour after taking a tsp. of the Aconite. The usual dose was only 2-3 drops. He was conscious the whole time. His widow sued the pharmacist for negligence and settled out of court just before the trial. I found the court papers, complete with depositions of all the witnesses involved.
