Douglas Clinton Northrop was born on July 2, 1913 in Stamford, Connecticut. He joined the United States Army Air Forces during World War Two as a bomber pilot. On April 27, 1945, on a mission to Kyushu, Japan, his plane caught fire and crashed near the island of Agrihan. 10 crewmembers were found in the ocean, and one was found on the island, but Lieutenant Colonel Northrop was never seen again. The last person to see him alive was Captain Jack J. Boozer, U.S. Army Air Corps.
