About Lt.-Col. Patrick Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan, CB

Agnew-Vans, Patrick, esq. of Barnbarroch, in the county of Wigton, a lieutenant-colonel in the East India Company's service, on the Madras Establishment, and a Companion of the Bath, b. 6th January, 1783, m. 7th September, 1813, Miss Catherine Fraser, of Inverness.

Colonel Vans-Agnew, who is a deputy-lieutenant and justice of the peace for Wigtonshire, succeeded his brother, on the 12th October, 1825.

Colonel Vans-Agnew served with distinction in India for twenty-five years, during which period he was never absent from his duty beyond a few months. He participated in most of the important actions which occurred, and was almost constantly in the field. He repeatedly traversed the Madras and Bombay territories,as well as the Deccan and Malwah, and has frequently filled high and influential situations.

220. Lieutenant-Colonel Patrick VANS-AGNEW of Barnbarroch & Sheuchan. Born on 6 January 1783 at Barnbarroch, Wigtownshire, Scotland, Patrick died in London, Middlesex, England, on 17 May 1842; he was 59. He was buried in May 1842 in The Vault at Kirkinner (probably).

On 7 September 1813, when Patrick was 30, he married Catharine FRASER, daughter of Donald FRASER & Mary ORD, in Inverness, Invernesshire, Scotland. Born in 1794, Catharine died in Newton Stewart, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, on 28 May 1879; she was 85.
