William Steuart (1754–1838), mayor of Baltimore 1831-1832, liuetenant-colonel in the US Army in the War of 1812. He commanded an infantry unit during the defense of Fort McHenry in 1814.

William STEWART 8th of Ardvorlich; christened 10 Jun 1754 at Comrie, Perth; married Helen Maxton of Cultoquhey, daughter of James Maxton of Cultoquhey and Marjory Graeme, 28 Aug 1797 at Comrie, Perth; died 26 Feb 1838 at Comrie, Perth, at age 83.

  William is referred to by the Factor of Atholl in SOS as "the present Mister Stewart".
    Children of William Stewart 8th of Ardvorlich and Helen Maxton of Cultoquhey all born at Ardvorlich, Comrie, Perth, were as follows:
             i.     Robert 9th of Ardvorlich  born 25 Aug 1799; died 16 Jul 1854 at age 54.
                                      This Robert Stewart's birth is recorded in SOS : "William Stewart Esqur the presant proprietor four sons 1 Robert 2 John 3 Willm 4 Anthony."  This is the Robert Stewart of Ardvorlich who corresponded with Sir Walter Scott in the preface to "A Legend of Montrose.

Robert Stewart died without children and was succeeded by his nephew, William Stewart.
