Lt. Colonel William Wellford Randolph (CSA) was killed in the Battle of the Wilderness.
CSA: Company C, 2nd Virginia Regiment Infantry
Son of Dr. Robert Carter Randolph and his wife Lucy M. Wellford. Living at White Post in 1850. He attended University of Virginia. Married Ada Stuart of King George County. Enlisted at Camp Jackson on Bolivar Heights as a private. On April 20, 1862 elected Captain, to Lieut. Colonel on April 26 of 1864. He was on recruiting detail for 3 months then on special duty. Had leave to serve in Virginia Legislature from September of 1863 to March of 1864. His life came to an end at the Battle of the Wilderness in the 28th year of his age.
