9290. Lieut. Francis Whitmore. Born on 12 Oct 1650 in Cambridge, MA.266 Francis died in Middletown, CT, on 19 Sep 1700; he was 49.

Francis served as Lieutenant in Middleton Train Band in 1691 and 1699.

On 8 Feb 1674 when Francis was 23, he married Hannah Harris, daughter of William Harris (say 1620-17 May 1714) & Edith [Harris] (ca 1620-5 Aug 1685), in Middletown, CT.266 Born on 1 Mar 1644/5 in Rowley, MA. Hannah died in Middletown, CT, on 3 Aug 1722; she was 77. 10 children.

Son of Isabell Parke and Francis Whitmore Sr. of Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts.

He was raised up in Cambridge, but lured by opportunities out west on the Connecticut River, he moved to Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut in 1674.

He married Hannah Harris 8 February 1675. His new father-in-law gave the couple two parcels of land in Middletown as a wedding gift and later deeded them about 700 acres at a place called Moromock, abutting the Connecticut River.

Francis later built a stone bridge over what was called the nearby Ferry River, a tributary to the Connecticut. It was a source of income to his family as a toll bridge.

Francis was commissioned a Lieutenant in the town militia in 1699. He died the following year.

His children's ages at the time of his death were: Francis, age 25 years; Hannah 23, Elizabeth 21, Abigail 19, Martha 17, Joseph 14, William 12, Edith 10, Isabell 6, and John, 3 years of age.

Order to dist. the estate to the widow & children. And appoint Capt. John HAMLIN, Capt. John HALL & Lt. Thomas WARD, distributors. Joseph WETMORE, son of the decd., chose Capt. John HAMLIN for his guardian. And the children under age are left under the care of their mother by order of the Court.
