Biography ==Joseph Green (abt.1715-aft.1771) and Anne (Green) McEntire (abt.1735-) are siblings, children of an unknown Green. Joseph married Mary McEntire; Anne married James McEntire.

Research Notes

Which Green family siblings Joseph and Ann belong to is not known.
: Frequently suggested as their father is the William Green who left a will dated 12 November 1776, proved in Berkeley County in 1780 - William Green (abt.1695-bef.1780). The following is from his profile, discussing his son Joseph Green (abt.1726-bef.1776).* Joseph Green was born in probably Queen Anne County, Maryland circa 1726. His widow may be the Mary Green found on Berkeley county tax lists. Joseph died before 1776 (date of his father's Will). The previous information assumes he remained in residence near his family in Maryland or Virginia. Suggestions that Joseph was not the son of William's second wife, Dinah Butt married 1723, would push Joseph's birth year estimate before 1723. Suggestions that he was the same Joseph Green who married Mary McEntire after 1748 and died in 1771 in Tryon county, North Carolina finds some resistance by his descendants, who either claim his origins are unknown or unproven, or claim his origins were in Rhode Island.
: From the son Joseph attached to this profile:* This profile [ Green-8439 ] is not the same as Green-11259. That Joseph Greens father left a will in Berkeley County Virginia Devised 12th November 1776 and probated 21st March 1780. Further records at Page 189 & Page 216. The statement in that will, "I will and bequeath to my Grandson William Green son and heir of my son Joseph Green" implies that Green-11259 was alive on 12th November 1776 or William the grandson had yet to receive any part of his fathers estate. William son of this Joseph Green [ Green-8439 ] had already received his inheritance by 12th November 1776 and was fighting on the wrong side in the Revolutionary War. His siblings received their inheritance as they reach their majority. The residue of this Joseph Green's estate was distributed by James McAfee, 2nd July 1784 to all his children which was £110 current money of North Carolina.
Estimated Birth Year: "about 1690" is a complete guess based on the birth years given in WikiTree for Joseph (1715) and Anne (1735).
PPP: This profile is managed by the US Southern Colonies Project and project-protected (PPP) to help preserve it as a separate profile (PPP restricts who can add parents; it does not prevent a merge unless the other profile is also protected).
Merge warning: There is much confusion in online trees for the Greens of Virginia. Please do not propose a merge unless you also add reliable sources to support who this Green is, aside from the father of Joseph and Ann.

<i>update - profile management switched; profile also edited to clarify that it is not a duplicate of William Green who died 1779</i><p>Hello US Southern Colonies Project &amp; Southern Pioneers Project - I'm switching this profile for William Green (died 1779) to the US Southern Colonies Project, since most of his life was prior to 1776.

Thank you, Liz. Just what I had in mind, but better. Excellent explanation in bio. Research Notes is a nice touch. You've done a good service to all who may come along and want to contribute.

<a href="/wiki/Green-11257" title="Green-11257">Green-11257</a> and Green-7128 appear to represent the same person because: I find it surprising these are both in the same project... why is it that the will (that names Regnal et al) is attributed to both men?
Author: Scott McClain
This profile is managed by the Southern Pioneers Project, and the other by the Southern Colonies Project. Obviously, they are either duplicates or the will is wrongly attributed to one of them. However, this profile has no bio and is assigned a different spouse so this should be sorted out before any merger.
Author: Steve Lake
I can try to shed some light on this non-duplicate profile.<p>First, the Will does not apply to this William Green, husband of Mary Increase Allen, and neither does the death date.Unsupported family history and/or tree info often links the William Green (about 1695-1779) of Berkeley county, Virginia (Green-11257) (and this Will) to parents in Massachusetts or to a son, Joseph in North Carolina. Attempts have been made to seperate and differentiate these several profiles.The 1779 Will and death date/place needs to be removed from this profile. In favor of what better info, I do not know.
</p>
Author: Steve Lake
After rejecting the unmerged match, I then looked at the profile of Mary Increase Allen. Her bio states she married a John Green, son of James Green.<p>If she is disconnected from this William Green, then this William Green can be merged with Green-11257.
</p>
Author: Steve Lake
Removed wife Mary Increase Allen of MA. Son Joseph and daughter Ann need to be removed, too.<p>There is better evidence that they are the children of Green-8439.

Author: Liz Shifflett
what a mess! I wasn't seeing how the attached profile for Ann could be daughter of Joseph <a href="/wiki/Green-8439" title="Green-8439">Green-8439</a>, since that profile is for <a href="/wiki/Green-1968" title="Green-1968">Ann m McEntire</a> &amp; the text for Joseph says his daughter Ann m McAfee (<a href="/wiki/Green-7132" title="Green-7132">Green-7132</a>). Then I started looking at all the various profiles and gave myself a headache. <p>Do we need a Workspace page to sort these families out? I got lost with the multiple marriages &amp; sources/speculations about various relationships.
</p>
Author: Steve Lake
MESS is the usual reaction to the mish-mash of unproven tree info by the fitters and copiers, especially on these Greens.<p>I can back up the profiles on my line, descended from <a href="https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-11257" class="external free" title="https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-11257" rel="nofollow">https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-11257&lt;/a&gt;. This profile and that of his son, Joseph, have been revised to only include proven information, removing presumption and speculation.</p><p>I have less on the fictitious ties to North Carolina and Rhode Island/Massachusetts.</p><p>North Carolina has ample and reliable information for Capt Joseph Green, Born about 1715 in Colonial America, Son of William Green and [mother unknown], Brother of Anne (Green) McEntire, Husband of Mary (McEntire) Green, married after 1748 in Tryon County, British Colony of North Carolina, North America. Father of William Marion Green, Anne (Green) McAfee, Abraham Green, Isaac Green Sr, Mary (Green) Whorton, Jacob Nathaniel Green and Joseph Green Jr.Died after 29 Sep 1771 in Tryon, North Carolina. <a href="https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-8439" class="external free" title="https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-8439" rel="nofollow">https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Green-8439&lt;/a&gt;. The information on this profile may be considered reliable and may help sort the aforementioned mess.
</p>
Author: Liz Shifflett
Hi again! I think I've got this profile explained appropriately - my only question... we did determine that we don't know the given name of the father of Joseph and Ann who married McEntires, right?
Author: Steve Lake
Nope on disconnecting children. Now that I've looked over these profiles, I think this William Green was only attached to Joseph and Ann in order to connect them as siblings. The "preferred name" of "unknown" was added because the proven name of their father is unknown. Based on false information elsewhere on the internet, the 1776 Will from Berkeley county, Virginia has been added.<p>My suggestion is to remove William as a birth name, remove death date &amp; place, and remove the Will. Since this is a "place-holder" profile with absolutely no data other than a surname, it may not qualify for project protection.
</p>
Author: Liz Shifflett
ah - just saw the answer to my previous question. <p>Feel free to make changes (or let me know what needs to change). </p><p>Send me a private message if you'd like to be made a manager of this profile.
