The Adams name is thought to be of Welsh origin, originally Ap Adams(Ap meaning "son of" in Welsh), the Ap was dropped from the name as the Adams became more integrated into English culture and society.

Samuel of Griswold, Conn., made will Oct. 24, 1818 : proved May 22, 1820 ; mentions his \die Sarah, and James, Jeduthan and Luther, sons of his brother James. In a codicil, Feb. 11, 1819, he gives a half of the residue of his property to Elijah Willsby, the son of his wife. 83. iii. John', b. in Canterbury, Feb. 17, 1743-4: m. Dec. 21, 1765, Submit Butts; he d. at Fly Creek, Otsego Co., N. Y., 25 Nov., 1810, age 66. 84. iv. Joseph, b. in Canterbury^ Feb. 2, 174.5-6 ; m.
