Joseph Bradford was related to a passenger on the Mayflower.

Joseph Bradford, born in Plymouth, Plymouth Colony, 18 April 1675, son of William Bradford, was the only child of William's second wife.

Joseph married twice. His first wife was Anna Fitch born in Norwich, Connecticut 6 April 1675; died in Lebanon, Connecticut, 7 Oct 1715, daughter of James and Priscilla (Mason) Fitch of Norwich.[1] Joseph and Anna married 5 Oct 1698 in Lebanon.[1][3]

Joseph married secondly, Mary (Sherwood) Fitch. Their intention to marry was filed at New London, Connecticut, 25 Feb 1715/6.[1][4] Mary, daughter of Matthew and Mary (Fitch) Sherwood was born 1674 and died in Montville, Connecticut, 16 Sept 1752. She married (1) 4 Mar 1698, in Preston, Connecticut Daniel Fitch. They had children: Adonijah, James, Lemuel, Mary and Daniel. Her father's 1713 will named daughter Mary Fitch. Her mother's 1726 will named daughter Mary Bradford.[1]

Ensign Joseph Bradford bought land 30 Mar 1703. Lieutenant Joseph Bradford sold land 28 July 1704 in Lebanon.[1] 1 March 1714/5 Joseph Bradford of Lebanon sold 52 acres in Norwich and Windham to Jonathan Lad.[1] Joseph, then of New London sold 20 acres to John Bradford of New London on 8 Jan 1741/2[1][5]

Joseph left Lebanon about 1717 and resided in the North Parish of New London, which is now part of Montville. He was a large land holder and an active participant in the parish. He was chosen elder of the church in 1724.[6]

Joseph died in New London, 17 Jan 1747 in his 73rd year,[1] Lieutenant Joseph Bradford was buried at the Raymond Hill Cemetery.[7][8]

Joseph Bradford, of New London, wrote his will 14 Sep 1731. It was proved 10 March 1746/7 and names his wife Mary Bradford; sons Joseph and John; eldest daughter Ann Demick; daughters Priscilla Hide, Sarah Turthill, Hannah Buele, Elizabeth Bradford, Alithea Bradford and Irene Bradford. A document was signed 18 Jun 1747 by heirs Samuel and Priscilla Hide, David and Alitha Hide, Jonathan and Irene Janes and Andrew and Elizabeth Lisk, all of Lebanon; Israel and Sarah Lothrop of Norwich; and Timothy and Hannah Buele of Hebron.[1][9] His inventory was taken April 1747 and valued at about 120 pounds.[9]
