A son of Samuel Dyer of Albemarle County, Virginia and his wife, Celia Bickley, William H. Dyer married Margaret "Peggy" Brydie on 17 Feb 1814 in Richmond, Virginia. He came to Callaway County in 1827 and raised a large family along with his brothers John and Samuel. His son, Alexander Byrdie Dyer, became a General during the Civil War and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
