About Lt Winthrop Carter
Lieutenant Carter held various trusts and offices in town, was a large landholder in Boscawen and Canterbury, N. H. He was licensed as an innkeeper Oct. 12. 1790, and kept tavern in house lately occupied by N. S. Webster, the front part of which he built, and planted the elm standing near.
