Lucille Rhyne Burleson passed away on May 9, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Will Rhyne and Effie Turbyfill Rhyne, who raised their family in the Minpro area of Spruce Pine. She was a graduate from Harris High School with honors, then attended McDowell Tech, Mayland Tech, and Sacred Hearts College in Belmont, NC. She retired from the Mitchell County Public Schools with 30 years' service. Prior to her teaching career, she was the U.S. Postal Clerk at the Minpro Rural Post Office, and register for the Mitchell County Vital Statistics.

Lucille was a faithful member of Pine Branch Baptist Church since her early childhood. She served as director and teacher of Vacation Bible Schools, Sunday School teacher, and Outreach Director.

As a mother and wife, she loved every minute with her children and husband. In her leisure time, she enjoyed walking, reading, working on seasonal projects, attending retired teacher's functions, public speaking, and winter traveling to the Destin Military Recreation Campground with her husband, Fred O. Burleson. Her philosophy was "live each day to its fullest".

Preceding her death are her beloved husband, Fred O. Burleson, son, Jimmy Pittman; age 18, and twin sister Virginia Ann who died at birth, parents Jesse Rhyne and Effie Turbyfill Rhyne, sisters Jessie Rhyne Peterson, Frances Rhyne Willis, Alice Rhyne Pitman, brother Ronald Rhyne, step daughter Mary Jane Burleson, and step son Bill Burleson.

She is survived by a daughter Cindy Anderson and husband Donny Anderson of Nashville, TN, a son Mark Pittman and fiancé' Darcy Guffin of Atlanta, GA, step son Roger Burleson and Nancy Burleson of Spruce Pine, step daughter-in-law Jeannie Burleson of Spruce Pine, sister Doris Rhyne Thompson and Bob Thompson of Spruce Pine, a brother Harold Rhyne and Beth Rhyne of Spruce Pine, grand children Bobby and Jesse Solomon, Hannah Pittman, Meredith Hoilman, Jennifer Gregory, Freddy Burleson, Beth Satterfield and 12 great grandchildren.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Lucille Burleson at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Pine Branch Baptist Church. The Rev's. Bobby Joe Greene, Steve Williams, and Andy Willis will be officiating the service. A time to receive friends and share memories and support the family will be from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Pine Branch Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
