Died, on Thursday, Dec. 9, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Bracken, in the 82nd year of her age, Mrs. Lucy Benson. Lucy Coles was born in Wigginton, Oxforshire, England, April 27, 1816; at the age of 20 was married to Richard Benson. Emigrated with her husband and family to America, and came to Mineral Point in 1848. She has resided in this vicinity with short intermissions until her death. Her husband died April 15, 1875. One daughter and three sons survive her.
For many years she has resided at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bracken, where unwavering love and kindness helped to smooth the declining pathway to the grave. Simply, ostentatiously and truly in the vicissitudes of a long life, according to the light vouchsafed she performed her part. The esteem in which she was held by her neighbors is attested by the long concourse which followed her to her last resting place.
Not shrinkingly or coweringly, but courageously if humanly, although suffering excruciating bodily pain; but sustained by a serene faith, un-assailed by the questionings and doubts of a modern skepticism, ministered unto by loving hands, she passed through the portals of Death to the abode of Eternal Rest.
