Died: Mrs. J.H. Bartmess departed this life Thursday, Sept. 28th, 1905, at 5 o'clock p.m., aged 73 years, 5 months and 3 days. She survived her husband twenty-five days. Mrs. Bartmess was ailing at the time of her husband's death and was feared at the time that she would not live over the shock.
Miss Lucy Jane Chapman was born near Lowell, Ohio, April 25th, 1832, married J.H. Bartmess, April 9th, 1854. To this union 8 children were born, 3 now living. They came to Butler county, Kansas in 1870, where she joined the Christian church some time in the eighties. The funeral was preached at the house, Friday at 2 p.m., by Dr. R.L. McKinney of the Christian church after which the remains were interred in the Quito cemetery by the side of her companion.
