By his mistress Lucy Peckham (d. 31 July 1552), the daughter of Thomas Peckham, and wife of Sir George Harper (d. 12 December 1558), Richard Morrison had a son and three daughters. According to the inquisition post mortem taken 18 October 1560, these children were Marcellus Harper (d. 1 February 1559); Frances, who married William Patrickson, gentleman; Mary, who married Bartholomew Hales, gentleman, brother of John Hales; and Anne, who died unmarried.[12]

George Harper made his will on 8 Nov. 1558, naming his wife executrix and residuary legatee, and died a month later at his house in the Blackfriars, London. On 12 Dec. he was buried in St. Martin’s church, Ludgate. After the death in January 1560 of his widow, who had since married George Carleton†, Harper’s lands were divided according to arrangements made before his death, his residence at Sutton Valence going to William Isley, his sister’s son-in-law; he had made no provision for the putative children, two sons and three daughters, of his first marriage. They were in fact his children in name only, and had been provided for by their real father Richard Morison. Letters of administration of the estate of Lucy Harper were granted on 1 Feb. 1560 to her daughter Mary, wife of Bartholomew Hales, and two days later the administration of Audrey Harper’s property was granted to her next of kin, Margaret, wife of Thomas Culpeper.8
