About Lucy Williams (Cherokee Native American)

Stephen Thomas Williams along with two of his brothers, Samuel and Green, came to America as missionaries to the Indians about 1790 with the movement that is now the Methodist Church. The three brothers left their father , Geoffrey Williams , in Wales and went to London , England where the Church of England commissioned Stephen to be a missionary to the Cherokee Indians by the Wesley brothers. The three Williams brothers came to America then with John Wesley group to Charleston , South Carolina . The Cherokee Indians in S.C. , which was displaced as the white settlement advanced inland, collected in a colony around Charleston, S.C. Stephen was a missionary to this group and eventually married the Chief's daughter, whose name was belive to be Lucy or Linny. Another version told by Stephen Yancy Williams ( Stephen Yancy Williams was born 1900 died 1992 is the son of John Wesely Williams) : The Williams family began in America with the brothers coming from Wales to Charleston , S.C. sometime before 1812. Shortly after coming to America Sam and Green settled in Tenn. Sam later moving to Arkansas. Stephen who was a preacher moved to Ala as a missionary to the Indians. About 1812 he met and married a Cherokee Indian girl. She was the chief's daughter and was called Linny or Lucy ( as far as the descendants know) Stephen and Lucy obtained land and built a house in 1816 on a creek that now has his name " Williams Creek " . The house was about three and half miles Northeast of where Hamilton now is. It is uncertain for sure how many children Stephen had but Stephen Yancy Williams knew of four. Three sons and one daughter. Given the location and the time 1812 the principle chief of the Cherokee nation was
