- About 1873, he come north from Chicago and settled at the "Frydenland" cabin at Swamp Creek, a farm and trading post near the Town of Nashville in Forest County, Wis.
- 1878-1888, ran the post office named Frydenland ,located in his cabin.
- 1885-1899 Forest County Treasurer.
- 1899 moved to Pelican Lake area and engaged in land speculation
- 1899 moved to Pratt Junction and rented a building to run a general store.
- 1901 he purchased a store in Pelican Lake and operated it until 1911
- 1912 Moved to British Columbia
- 1913 Moved to Odanah, on the Bad River Reservation near Ashland, where Kate had moved when Motzfeldt retired from the store business.
