BIOGRAPHY Ludwig Alexander was the only child of Ludwig Wilhelm von Sötern and Katharina von Steinkallenfels. After his father's death he became the principal heir of the Sötern estate as his uncles Konrad and Johann Christoph did not have progeny, the latter building a great Church career.
Ludwig Alexander was a counsellor in the prince-archbishopric of Trier and bailiff of Münstermaifeld and Kobern. In October 1591 he married Elisabeth von Nassau zu Spurkenburg, widow of Johann, Herr von Helfenstein, and daughter of Philipp von Nassau and Christina von der Leyen. When he died in 1612 he left his widow and six under-age children. Only Johann Reinhard and Anna Katharine, who married Freiherr Adolf von Nesselrode, zu Ehreshoven, Thum und Wegberg, would have progeny.
