About Lydia Lida Missouri Lavender Smith
Married JOHN DOUGLAS (DOUG) SMITH, December 31, 1879, at the home of her parents, "near Union," Greene County, AL. Note that Montgomery Advertiser news article (see Media) states that husband's name was "Jas." and not John.
"Mrs. Lavender, sister of Andrew T. Bonds, had a daughter named Missouri Lavender, who had lost an arm in a sorghum mill. I recall that I visited her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew T. Bonds, at their home in Franklin County, one summer in the 1880s, when I was in my early teens. There she became acquainted with [John] Douglas ("Doug") Smith, who was an employee of Mr. Bonds. Later, Doug Smith went to Pickens County and married Missouri Lavender, and they raised a family there. Missouri had two brothers named Tommy and Jimmy. She may have had other brothers and sisters." --from C. Elliott, Annals of Northwest Alabama (1959), p. 165
