About Lydia Susannah Purnell

Lydia Susannah Goaslind Purnell was raised in Franklin, Idaho and attended all the schools available in die area. She and her husband. Ernest Purnell, grew up together and when Susan was seventeen they were married at Logan. Throughout their lives they shared each others love and confidence. Susan taught school while he farmed, worked in the canyon, and freighted. They worked hard and had a fine family.

When they had been married seven years, they entered the order of plural marriage. Of this relationship Susan said, "We entered the order of plural marriage. I said "we" because it was with my full consent; believing it to be a divine principle and required of all Saints-who desired Celestial glory. I have never seen the day I regretted having taken that step. We have each tried to do right in living the same although it was some trial for each of us."

In 1902 they moved to Cardston, Canada from Logan. They had lived in Logan so their children could have better educational facilities at the B. Y. college. The time spent in Canada was filled with hard work, many disappointments, and adverse circumstances. She learned to love the people and enjoyed her life and labors there as she was very active in the Relief Society and was in close contact with many people under varying conditions. Her later years were spent doing temple work in Salt Lake City. She bore a strong testimony of the Gospel.
