About Lydia Ann Shantz

Lydia Ann Stauffer and Ezra Shantz were married on March 15, 1888, in New Hamburg, Ontario. The couple made their home on their farm in Wilmot Township near Haysville, Ontario. Their children were:
- Winnifred Emma "Winnie" (1888-1981)
- Susan Marilla "Susie" (1890-1987)
- Lorne (1892-1893)
- Burton Willard (1894-1947)

In May 1895, Ezra died from consumption (tuberculosis), leaving Lydia Ann a widow with four young children. By the time of the 1901 Census of Canada, Lydia Ann and Susan resided with Josiah Stauffer (Lydia Ann's brother) and his family in Waterloo Township, while Winnifred and Burton lived with other relatives.

- 1911 Census of Canada: Lydia Ann, Susan, and Burton Shantz lived with Esther Stauffer (Lydia Ann's widowed mother) in the town of Waterloo, Ontario.
- 1916 Census of Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan: Lydia, Winnie, and Susie Shantz resided on their farm in the West Calgary district of Alberta.
- 1921 Census of Canada: Lydia possessed her "own farm" in Calgary West, Alberta, where she lived with her two daughters.

Lydia Ann died on March 8, 1949, in Kelowna, British Columbia, where her daughter Winnifred resided. She was laid to rest beside her husband who died 54 years earlier.
