35. PILGRIM4 VICK (William3, Richarcf, Josephl) was born about 1750- 1755 in Southampton County, Virginia, and he died there before 21 December 1818.

Pilgrim was probably in his middle-to-late twenties when he married (1) LYDIA VICK, daughter ofJacob Vick [#8], on 29 December 1777.1 Three years later, on 11 August 1780, his father sold him a 200 acre tract on Cypress Swamp.2 When his father died in 1784, Pilgrim inherited additional land there that adjoined his cousin Council Vick and William Newsom.3 He was taxed on this property in 1785.4 On 10 May 1792, as co-executor, he filed a current account of his father's estate.s

Pilgrim concentrated his holdings on Cypress Swamp. On 12 June 1788 and again on 13 January 1791, he bought tracts there from his brother Joshua.6 A decade later, on 18 May 1801, he purchased a tract on the south side of Arthur's Swamp from his cousin Mourning and her husband Benjamin Jordan.?......

I. EXUM5, b. ca. 1778; m. MARGARET "PEGGY" VICK.

ii. LEMUEL, b. ca. 1780; d. after 1812, but before 1816 in South-
ampton County, Virginia. He m. PATIENCE VICK, daughter of John Vick [#30]. Lemuel received a gift of land from his father on 19 December 1803, and, with his wife, sold land to his father on 17 December 1810. On that same day, he bought land from his brother-in-law, John Hargrave. During the War of l812, he served as a private in Magnien's 8th Regiment of Virginia Militia. He died without issue. Lemuel's land was ordered to be divided among his siblings, with $94 going to each sibling. His widow, Patience, m. (2) Matthew Vick [#155]. On 17 January 1825, she sold land that had belonged to Lemuel to Exum Vick.18

iii. CA THERINE, b. ca. 1782; d. after 15 June 1829, probably in Southampton County, Virginia. She m. JOHN HARGRA VE before 1810. He sold land to Lemuel Vick in 1810 and to Exum Vick in 1821. He apparently died intestate.19

IV. SAMUEL, b. ca. 1785; d. before 26 May 1824 in Southampton County, Virginia. He m. ELIZABETH JOHNSON on 6 December 1819. From August to October 1814, Samuel served as a private in the 65th Regiment of Virginia Militia. He died intestate; his estate was administered by his brother, Exum. Children, surnamed VICK: 1. Sally; 2. Nancy. Both died intestate without issue in Southampton County before 21 Oct- ober 1844. Exum, succeeded by John Vick in 1828, served as their guardian. It was later ordered by the court that Jacob Barnes "settle on account Exum Vick's transactions as curator o f the orphants o f Samuel Vick".20

v. P A TIENCE, b. ca. 1790; d. after 1835. She m. JOSEPH REES, JR. on 1 December 1817. She was named in her father's will and in the estate settlement of15 June 1829. On 23, 5th month 1818, Patience Vick "now Reis" was dismissed from the Western BranchMeeting.JosephRees'willwasprobatedon21 Septem- ber 1835. Since they had no children, Patience was to receive his land, but after her death it was to be divided between brother-in- law Exum's daughter Elizabeth and Mary Ann Battle, daughter of Henry Battle. Also named in the will are Francis Ridley, Henry Blow, Nat Simmons and Jesse R. Vincent.21
