About Möngkä Borjigin dynasty, 4th Great Khan of the Mongol Empire

(January 11, 1209 – August 11, 1259 ), was the fourth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, ruling from July 1, 1251, to August 11, 1259. He was the first Great Khan from the Toluid line and made significant reforms to improve the administration of the Empire during his reign. Under Möngke, the Mongols conquered Iraq and Syria as well as the kingdom of Nanzhao.

Möngke married first Qutuqui of the Ikheres clan. Their children included 2 boys and 1 girl: Baltu Urendash the princess Baylun Möngke married Oghul-Khoimish (Oghul Teimish) of the Oirats. She bore two daughters: Shirin Bichike Möngke's youngest wife was Chubei (d.1259). There were the most favored two concubines among his many wives and concubines. Herein: Bayavchin of the Bayid clan: Shiregi Quitani of the Eljigin clan: Asutai, the prince who supported the election of Ariq Böke

MONGKA (10 Jan 1209-Hu-chou 11 Aug 1259). Abul-Ghazi Bahadur names “Mangou-Qaan, Holagou-Khan, Qoubilai-Qaan et Mouga-Oghoul” as the sons of “Touli Khan” by “Sourqouqti-Bigui”. He fought with Batu Khan in Russia in 1237, leading the troops which conquered the Alans and the north Caucasian tribes. After the confusion which followed the death of Guyuk Khan in 1248, Mongka was elected Great Khan at a quriltai at Ala Qanaq in 1250, confirmed at Kodee Abali 1 Jul 1251, with the support especially of Batu Khan. His succession was challenged by his cousins, the three sons of Guyuk, but he prevailed over them and was installed as Great Khan in 1252 at Karakoram. During his reign the conquest of Persia was completed and the Caliphate of Baghdad captured. He died while campaigning with his brother Kubilai in China.
