MJ Frankel was undoubtedly named for his mother's father, Joseph Hershon, of Bialystok. His paternal grandfather, Yosel Frankel died a few years after MJ was born.

All officers of the Temple Judah Congregation here were reelected at the annual meeting. M. J. Frankel is president, Max Albert, vice-president, Zig Salit, secretary and Mrs. John F. Miller, treasurer. Mrs. Charles Greenberg was elected president of the Temple’s Sisterhood.
Isabel Frankel Meth says this is how Mendel and Dorrie Schwartz met. Mendel taped this story for his children and grandchildren.
Dad said he finally found a deli in Palestine to have a corned beef sandwich and was so pleased. A lady named Dora Block came into the deli and wanted to use the phone. Whilst there she told the proprietor that it was her 3rd anniversary that evening and she had lots of English speaking girls coming, but did he know any English speaking men. He pointed to Dad eating his sandwich and that is how they met. Dad went home that evening and told his Mother he had met the girl he was going to marry. Dora Block was the one person killed in Entebbe many years later.
Dorrie was the youngest of all her siblings and the only one at home when her parents decided to move to Palestine, Her Father's asthma was so bad in England and he was very religious and anxious to live there so they moved. He was a very dear and close friend of Reb Cook who was famous in the 20's and is buried next to him.
The Gondoliers was an amateur group and just something she did for fun for a couple of weeks during their courtship time. They met in October or November and married in May. Left for the States very soon after that.
