About Maata Kerekau
Kerekau was the son of Maungapohatu and was born around 1840. In 1867 he married Maata who was from Matakana Island. The couple married on Motuhoa Island and then lived at Te Puna. He died in 1920,his body was laid at Raropua and later his bone swere taken to be buried in the cemetery at Epiha.23 In 1901, Kerekau built a timber house oppositeTutereingaMarae, only to haveto move it to Raropuanine years later.
