About Mabel Grewell
Mabel Shook Grewell, fourth of seven daughters of Leo and Martha Shook, was born December 1, 1907, on a farm in he Independence community near Lebanon, Kansas, and died at Webster county hospital, Red Cloud, Nebr. on January 23, 1966, aged 58 years, 1 month, and 22 days. ..Mabel was born in a Christian home, and lived within that faith all her life. She devoted herself to the needs of others, never too busy to help in illness or sorrow. She was a member of the First Methodist church, Red Cloud, Nebraska. ..She grew to womanhood in the Lebanon and Esbon communities, forming there her capacities for humor, quiet service and deep friendships which she was to faithfully practice throughout her life. ..At the age of seven, she demonstrated her natural talent for piano playing, beginning then to develop a love for music to be exceeded only by that for family and friends, until she was struck by illness seven months prior to her death. ..She graduated from Lebanon high school in 1925, and after attending colleges at Hays, Kansas and Palmer Lake, Colorado, taught five terms at rural schools around Lebanon. Mabel was ever patient and thorough in her teachings and always encouraged the seeking of knowledge. ..On April 6, 1930, she married Albert Grewell. To them were born three children: Donald, Rosalie, and Marlene. She was a busy farm wife and mother until 1950 when the family moved to Red Cloud, Nebr. Following that, she worked privately and developed many close friendships until her death. ..Survivors are husband Bert Grewell, Red Cloud, Nebr; son, Don and wife Gini Grewell, grandchildren Kyle, Kevin, Kendall, Keith and Kimberley, Long Beach, Mississipi; daughter Rosalie and husband Edmund Cline, grandchildren Cary, Vicki, Curtis and Gregg, Imperial Beach, California; daughter Marlene and husband, Phil Hansen, grandchildren Terry and Debra, Red Cloud; mother, Mrs. L. L. Shook, Lebanon: six sisters: Pearl and husband, Versailes Olliff, Lebanon; Alice and husband Cecil Elwood, Hayward, Calif; Mrs. Lola Kenyon, Jefferson City, Mo; Theo and husband Tom Barney, Denver, Colo; Doris and husband Kenneth Hill, Smith Center; Thelma and husband Rex Wachs, Evanston, Wyo; twenty-one nieces, twelve nephews and many great nieces and newphew. ..Preceding her in death in December, 1965, was her father, L.L.
