Mabel Fern “Pat” Cheville Ringler BIRTH 9 May 1912 Zearing, Story County, Iowa, USA DEATH 4 May 1999 Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA BURIAL Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, USA PLOT Hillcrest B, Lot 23, Space 2 MEMORIAL ID 114968447 MEMORIAL PHOTOS 2 FLOWERS 3 Pat died from diabetes complications at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She lived in Collins for the last 12 years of her life. She was employed as a city bus driver, worked for Fisher in Marshalltown, and at the Swifts Packing Plant in Waterloo. She was a member of the Collins Christian Church and enjoyed country western music, cooking and needlecrafts.

Her first husband was Sherman Slifer, marrying in Marshalltown on Sep 2, 1930. They were married 11 years and had one son, James born Dec 10, 1935.

Her second husband was Robert Ray Brewer. They married Oct 18, 1941 in Marceline, Missouri.

During World War II, Pat went with her father to visit his sister Marie, in Los Angeles, CA. They found her living in her own little home together with 25 or 30 cats and a number of dogs. Pat remembered that it was often hard to find an unoccupied seat and Marie felt the cats were more entitled than Pat or Hezzie. They ate and slept with the cats for 2 weeks before they were able to get a bus going home to Iowa.

She married Clarence Foster on July 2, 1944 at the First Presbyterian church in Canton, Minnesota. They moved to Marshalltown, Ia after their marriage.

Her fourth husband was Stan Ringler, marrying on Aug. 25, 1947 in Waterloo, IA. They had one son, Ronnie who was born Dec 10, 1953. Ronnie died at age 14 of Hodgkins disease. Stan and Pat were married 37 years. Pat enjoyed needleworking and made many hand stitched items for family in her retirement. I still have some of her handwork. She was a very kind and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
