He was in charge of Pickering Forest in the time of King John.
He acquired 1/4 of the estates of Adam fitz Swain by his marriage to Mabel de la Mare, daughter and sole heiress of Mabel Malherb.
He died shortly before 31 July 1249, survived by his wife, who was dead by 1253.
