About Magdalene "Maud" Leitner
Note about birth surname
Many trees give Magdalena's birth surname as "Maudlin". This is, however, a variant of her given name "Magdalena" and is not a surname. Magdalena's surname is unknown.
DNA may provide that name eventually. Doing research for another project, I discovered that there is a New York Maul family that arrived in the ill-fated Palatine flotilla in 1710. I considered briefly that Magdalena might be the connection that explains a link to one of their descendants. This turned out to be not the case, but I did notice that "Maud" and "Maul" are not too different in script. So for the moment I am leaving this as is until further DNA work can validate or disprove the link.
[PLW] see comments accompanying the family group sheet, for the family of Adam and Maud, submitted by Vie Carter Watts in 1960 for LDS ordinance acts and recently added under the Media tabs for Adam and Maud.
[KDW] I have found a DNA match (Private) who is a Maul descendent but not an Eberhard descendant, and yet he has DNA that overlaps multiple known Eberhard matches. A Maul relationship for Magdalena is therefore not how our DNA is related unless she's actually a New York Eberhard, but I have no proof of that. So I am reverting Magdalena to unknown.
