Maisha Charmetz

Maisha Charmetz was born in a very small shtetl called Darbeik. His father, Chaim Leib was a Hebrew teacher, a melamed, a very learned man. Per uncle Lou (Chaim Lieb) (Maisha's son), it had been a tradition for six generations for Chaim Leib to name his son Maisha, and Maisha to then name his son Chaim Leib. Maisha's mother was Sarah Feiga. The Charmetz branch had lived many years in Darbeik, which was near Vizjune. Maishe married Pesah Rivka Adirim, and moved to Shupshik to raise his family. He worked for a landowner there. Both he and his wife died in 1910 ( cause of his death was blood poisoning..he was only 45). His mother Sarah Feiga died in Vizjune, while living with her daughter (Maishe's sister), Etta Rochel. Uncle Lou, as a small boy, remembered his father reciting Kaddish for his mother Sarah Feiga.
