About Maitzie Weinerman

Maitzie Weinerman passed away December 5, 2001 in the early morning hours with his precious wife Sayre by his side. They were husband and wife for over 62 wonderful years. He was a loving and proud father to Brian and Rivian and Bob and Donna; a devoted grand-father to Asher and Amanda, Josepha, Daniel and Adina and great-grandfather to Chaim and Leila. Maitzie is also survived by his sister Shirley Brumer and sisters-in-law, Anne Silverman, Pearl Caplan and Becky Stillman as well as many nieces and nephews. Maitzie was born in Winnipeg in 1916. He attended Machray School to Grade 6 and graduated from St. Johns Tech. He was a high school athlete (highjump, broadjump), a longtime curler (on the team that won the first Bnai Brith Bonspiel in 1948) and bowler, as well as an avid golfer and bridge player. In 1941 Maitzie with his partner and brother-in-law Earl Caplan began the first samples and substandards store in Western Canada called Mrs. Kays Clothing. They retired after 42 years in 1983 but their customers continued to remember them for their integrity and the fun they had in their store. In 1999 Sayre and Maitzie celebrated their 60th anniversary and Maitzie at 83 had his second Bar Mitzvah. Maitzie loved life, he adored his family above all and will always be remembered by his many friends and family for his booming voice, his laugh and smiling face.
