Major Anthony Robinson, son of Anthony Robinson, of Charles Parish and Mary Starkey, was born October 23, 1697 i. York County, and died there February 7, 1756.

MAJOR ANTHONY ROBINSON (Anthony,' John'); b. York county, Va., Oct. 23, 1697; d. Mar. 17, 1756; will dat. Feb. 7, 1756; pro. June 21, 1756; m. -, 1735, DIANA STARKEY, b. —; d. Feb. -, 1762; daughter of Christmas Starkey. Her will is dat. May 22, 1758; pro. Feb. 15, 1762.

Major Robinson was Justice, York Co., Feb. 19, 1732. He took the oath as an officer of the militia May 15, 1732; appointed to take the list of tithables in Charles Par. May 30, 1734, and May 17, 1736. His will names wife Diana; gives to Starkey 1000 a. Dinwiddie Co., S. side Sapponey Cr'k; to son John all his lands in No. Ca.; to his daus. Martha, Mary and Ann R. £100; to Col. Wm. Digges, to his son-in-law Thomas Everard, each £100; names wife Diana, Col. Digges, Thomas Everard, and son John R., ex'rs. (Will Bk., 402.) Diana qualified Aug. 16, 1756; appraisement ret'd Mar. 21, 1757; audited 1760. Her will names Thomas Everard, son Starkey and his son John, daus. Mary and Ann R., gr. daus. Frances Everard, Susanna and Frances Digges, daus. Martha Jones and Diana Everard, and gr. daus. Frances Jones and Mary Cole. Col. Wm. Digges and Thos. Everard, ex'rs. (Will Bk., 861.)

From Maj. Anthony R. descended John Robinson, who, July 14, 1769, rec'd grant of land, York Co., Va., north of the old Poquosin R., beginning at a place known as Shady Banks. This John was father of Merritt Moore Robinson, the elder, and Mrs. Anne Todd of Smithfield, Va. M. M. Robinson practiced law in Smithfield, Norfolk and Richmond, where he d. 1818. (C. R., Sr.) Merritt M. Robinson of Louisiana was also surely of this line; b. La. 1810; d. La. June 5, 1850; lawyer, and reporter of the Supreme Court of La. 1841-1847; published "Digest of the Penal Laws of La.," 1841. His "Reports" comprise sixteen volumes.

The will of Major Anthony Robinson was dated 7 Feb., 1756 and proved June 21, 1756; his wife Diana’s will was dated May 22, 1758 and probated February 15, 1762. They mention a son Starkey, a daughter Ann, a daughter Martha Jones, a daughter Mary, a son-in-law, Mr. Thomas Everard, clerk of York County, and grand-daughters Frances Everard, Susannah Digges and Mary Cole.
