Son of Robert and Polly Hoover Hamilton,brother of Margaret. Married Jemima Giler. Civil War veteran,Company K,15th Penn Cavalry Dallas,wounded three times.At the battle of Cold Harbor and Hanover Court House,Virginia.

Captain, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Veteran. Also served as 1st Lieutenant, Company H, 10th Pennsylvania Infantry from April 16, 1861 to September 30, 1862. History of Cambria County says he was wounded by gunshot, date unknown and suffered a saber would, date unknown. Detailed on recruiting service by Special Order No. 74, dated February 15, 1864. Shot through the groin and left hip at Hanover Courthouse Virginia, on May 31, 1864. His hip wound was so severe, it resulted in the partial paralysis of his legs and he never rejoined the regiment. Admitted to Antisell's U.S. General Hospital in June 1864. Discharged by surgeon's certificate for wounds on August 17, 1864.

Born August 28, 1822 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Married Jemima Giler and in 1884 he was elected associate judge of Cambria County. Filed for a pension on September 25, 1864, application number 52,150, certificate 34,116.
